In February and March 2012, basic FRG trainings for researchers were conducted at Bahir Dar University (Feb 6-9 and Feb 13-16), Mekele University (Feb 14-17), Adami Tulu ARC (Feb 27-Mar 1), Hawassa University (Feb 27-Mar 1), and Melkassa ARC (Mar 5-8). These trainings covered 147 researchers from 63 research centers and universities of different regions. The participants were introduced to the basic concept of FRG based research activities, actual case studies and they visited FRG farmers. The style of the trainings was very much interactive so that the participants and the trainers had active discussions.
Those who were trained in this basic FRG training will be participating in the second step training sometime September-October 2012. The organizations conducted the FRG trainings are expected to be hubs for their regions to network the research centers and universities, and further contextualize the FRG approach to their regions.
