Teachers from Japan visit the FRG farmers in Rift valley

Eight teachers from Japan visited FRG farmers in Rift valley on 6th August 2013. A briefing and discussion on FRG project as well as agriculture and rural situation in Rift Valley were held in the first day to help their understanding of agriculture in Rift Valley and to share the objectives of the visit. The teachers were divided into three groups according to existing farming systems of the area; irrigated agriculture, highland rain fed agriculture and lowland pastoralism depending on their interest. On the 2nd day, each group visited a village and interviewed farmers or pastoralist. The teachers glimpsed part of peoples' livelihood at each village. Each group compiled information collected and shared it with other groups on the 3rd day. Through the visit, the teachers deepen their understanding on the farmers and pastoralists' aspiration, family ties and cultural difference between Japan and Ethiopia. The teachers went back to Japan with hope that they can share a lot of information with their students.
