Visited Assosa
Mr. Tatsushi Tsuboi (PRiDe Project, Uganda) and JICA advisors of FRGII visited Assosa ARC and their FRG research sites on rice. During our visit, we have observed farmers' innovation on inter row spacing and weeding. While the government recommendation of inter-row spacing for rice was 20cm, this farmer was practicing 40cm inter-row spacing. According to the farmer's explanation, proper weeding is very difficult with 20cm interval. With 40cm inter-row spacing, he was weeding with oxen plow. At the same time, the wider interval avoids competition of soil moisture by reducing the planting density.
