Kick-off Meeting was held

The kick-off meeting has been held in each target District (Regency or Kabupatan) of Wajo, Bulukumba and Barru from 17th to 22nd January, 2011. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the objectives and activities of the Project to the Heads of Sub-District (Camat), the Heads of Public Health Center and the Chiefs of Villages (Desa) and Wards (Kelurahan) who are expected to support the community to implement Primary Health Care Improvement (PHCI) activities. In the opening session of the meeting in each District, the Governors (Bupati) expressed their thanks to the continuous support from Japan and their expectations of the Project results. After the presentation by the Heads of concerned Offices of the District Governments, there were a lot of questions from the participants which showed the strong interest in the Project at the field level.

The Project aims to establish the mechanism in which the local governments support the initiative of the community to improve their own health environment. The collaboration among related Offices (Health Office, Community Empowerment Board (BPMD), Regional Development Planning Board (BAPPEDA) and Regional Financial Management Office) in each target District Government will be crucial for effective implementation of the Project activities. The 4 Offices in each District had shown good team work in preparation and implementation of the meeting which led to the success of the meeting.

It is expected that the Project will contribute to strengthen the collaborative work among different offices in the local government which will lead to the improvement of the whole local administration system.
