"Community Health" Counterpart Training in Japan

From 28 May to 5 June 2011, PRIMA Kesehatan counterparts visited Japan in order to learn Japanese knowledge and experience on health care program. The objectives of the training in Japan were to understand how the government and the community work collaboratively in the area of primary health care, and to acquire an idea of how it can be applied to their context.

17 participants joined counterpart training in Japan, 2 from the central governments (Ministry of Health and Ministry of Home Affairs) and 15 from the provincial and district governments (BAPPEDA, Health Office, BPMD, DPKD/BPKD and DPRD). One of the places visited by the participants was Saku city, Nagano prefecture. In Saku city, the participants were explained about the outline of health program in Nagano prefecture. At Asashina Public Health Center they learned the role of prefecture and city on health care. They also observed the facilities in Saku Central Hospital. Other place that was visited was Sakuho town, where the participants were briefed about health care programs in village level, particularly health activity in Yachiho village which was a good example of collaboration among government, hospital and community. In Yachiho village, they visited Kitaaiki village Clinic and Kominkan (Community Hall) activities. The participants learned a lot from Japanese experience on how to respond the health-related needs in the community.
