Sites and Coverage

The target kabupaten (dostricts) of the Project are Kabupaten Barru, Jeneponto and Wajo of South Sulawesi Province. In total, 17 kecamatan (sub-districts) have been selected from the three target kabupaten, covering roughly half of the total kecamatan.

The Project covers all kinds of junior secondary schools in the target kecamatan. The schools can be categorized into five groups:

1. SMP Negeri (public junior high school *1
2. SMP Swasta (private junior high school)
3. MTs Negeri (public religious junior high school)
4. MTs Swasta (private religious junior high school)
5. SMP Terbuka (open junior high school) *2

However, since SMP Terbuka does not have its own building or facility, it will not be counted as an independent school under this Project. Instead, SMP Terbuka will be treated as part of its mother school, SMP Negeri. The names of the target kecamatan and the number of schools are shown in Table 1.

*1 This group includes “Satu Atap” (One Roof school), which is a small-scale junior secondary school attached to a primary school, usually in a remote area.
*2 SMP Terbuka is an open school attached to an SMP Negeri and under the management of the same school principal.
