In order to introduce the phenomena appeared in the case of ‘Banjir Bandang’ and countermeasures to be taken in an easy to understand manner, we have produced a comic.

Banjir Bandang appears in the form of floods/sediment disasters; among them, what causes great damage is the large scale debris flow with a natural dam. This disaster is brought about by the following processes; collapse of the hillside occurred at the narrowed width of the river dam up the river channel, which makes a reservoir of the river water at its upstream; then, by increase of the water level as well as the water pressure, water destroys the damed-up area to bring about a large-scale flood/debris flow in the downstream.

In the comic referred to above, it introduces the things such as; processes of formation of the Banjir Bandang, places where it could occur, examples of it that occurred in the past, causes and countermeasures, symptoms that appear before it breaks out, methods of researching hazardous area, evacuation drills, early warning and emergency measures and the like.

The said comic will be distributed to disaster prevention related agencies throughout the nation including the Ministry of Public Works; which will be utilized, as part of the activity for improvement of the early warning and emergency measures, to boost awareness of residents on the disaster prevention.
