The project team visited drought affected area.
Water points: After temporary water resources have been dried, limited water points are crowded with people and livestock. Some of them come from 30km away from the water point walking through the night to get water. But unfortunately there is not enough water.
Mobile clinic: Ministry of Health provides mobile clinic services to nomad communities. One clinic unit goes round to several settlements and stays at each settlement for 2 weeks. The unit is facing difficulties due to shortage of manpower and medicine problem because there are more settlements unplanned and more patients during the drought.
Newly settled communities: For the last few years new settlements have been appeared near borehole sites and along a road by people seeking water and food. Some communities constructed schools by themselves temporally since they had settled for two to three years. It caused booming demand for administrative services which is difficult to handle for governmental agencies.
A difference in services: Many agencies are working in Dadaab area because of easy access and affected population. In that area, community people get free services of water trucking 2-3 times in a week. But out of those areas, people only get free water trucking two or three times in a month even during the drought, so they have to sell their livestock to pay water trucking while others are getting free water services.
