Joint Extension Staff & Farmers Dual (2) Gender (JEF2G) training was conducted!

The project conducted the Joint Extension Staff & Farmers Dual (2) Gender (JEF2G) training from 6th to 10th December in Eldoret for Kisumu County. This training is one of the core activities of the SHEP Approach in which farmers and extension officers conduct market survey and decide which crops to grow based on the information collected.

On the second day of the training, participants conducted the market survey exercises at the Eldoret municipal market. Participants were divided into five groups and visited the retailers for the two crops allocated in advance. Based on a questionnaire, one group asked banana and leafy vegetable retailers about the best-selling varieties, required qualities and quantities, when the price of the crops going up, the method of receiving the payment at the time of shipment, etc. Initially, each member acted according to a predetermined role (interviewer, record keeper, timekeeper, etc.), but gradually it became a lively exchange of information with each participant asking questions, but managed to complete the interview on time.

The farmers participated in the training said "I realized the importance of conducting market survey before growing crops", "it was very useful to learn the best-selling varieties and the time to sell", "I would like to share the learnings with the group members and conduct market survey immediately."

Next, the project will organize a Facilitators' Training for Farmers' Demand Driven Extension (FT-FaDDE) training on knowledge and skills of crop production techniques based on the selected crops by farmers!
