"Two-Day MA-SHEP Gender ToT for Extension Staff Responsible for Target Farmer Groups in Implementing District Agriculture Offices (DAOs)" was conducted from Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th May, 2018.
Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development of Malawi puts importance on dialogues/discussions among family members for achieving gender equality within the household, and recognizes Household Approach (HHA) as an effective tool to facilitate dialogues/discussions among family members to make a family vision and find ways to achieve the vision and as a result, realize gender equality within the household. In MA-SHEP, we took "Visioning" and "Gender Balance Tree" among various HHA tools into MA-SHEP Package. Through these tools, we aim that the household members, both female and male should participate in farming helping each other.
In the workshop, the participants worked in group to make Visioning Map and Gender Balance Tree. During the group work, we could hear the sound of participants' laughing. One of the facilitators said that "Gender Training is not for forcing what we should do, but this is an opportunity to discuss how household members can be happy, thinking their own dream and vision. It's fun !"
The extension officers are going to conduct Gender Training to Target Farmer Groups from now on. We are looking forward to seeing their Visioning Map and Gender Balance Tree.
