Joint Activity Organized at School No. 26

School No. 26 is located in 13th khoroo of Khan-uul District, which is about 35 km away from the city center. It is a small school with 577 students and 54 teachers and staff. On December 20, 2015, JICA Project Team conducted a joint activity between its students and children with disabilities who are living in this area but not able to go to school.

According to a research conducted by the school teacher, there are nine children with disabilities without schooling in this area. Some of them enrolled in a special school; however actually, it is difficult for them to attend it every day due to the distance to the school. School No. 26 is planning to establish a special class and allocate a full time teacher to accept those children in cooperation with the Project Team. As a beginning of its implementation, we decided to organize the joint activity in order to familiarize those children with the school, and for teachers and students to be prepared for the next step.

A school social worker contacted each household. Four children with disabilities and their family visited the school on that day. Ten students of School No. 26 welcomed them, introduced themselves and played a recorder. After that, all children were divided into three groups and enjoyed a game (drawing the face of a team member) and snacks. It was only an hour activity but both children and families seemed to be satisfied. Some teachers of School No. 26 said, "We may be able to accept those children at regular classes." and "We should start activities involving them without just waiting for a special class opening."

On the next day, a Christmas party was held at the school and eight children with disabilities and their family attended it. The joint activity encouraged them to participate. The Project Team continues to support the school to widen an opportunity for their schooling in cooperation with teachers and families.
