Opening of 2014/2015 Academic Year (2nd June, 2014)

School starts its academic year from June in the Philippines. This year, DepED decided that enrollment period would continue until the end of June. The following table shows the number of enrollment this year:

Name of Pilot School Enrollment (Grade 11) Grade 12
Rizal Experimental Station and Pilot
School for Cottage Industries
(RESPSCI)
31 21
Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science and
Technology High School
(DARSSTHS)
48 No enrolment last year.
San Pedro Relocation Center National
High School
(SPRCNHS)
260 59
Subandaku Technical Vocational School
(STVS)
22 21

The Senior High School Program will start in June, 2016. Since current program is a modeling program, the number of enrollment has not increased drastically in comparison with the enrollment in the previous years (2012, 2013). For example, 24 students enrolled in RESPSCI in June 2012, 24 in 2013 and 31 in 2014. As for DARSSTHS, most of new Grade 11 students are from other high schools, since majority of students who complete Grade 10 in DARSSTHS proceed to higher education.

There is another issue that the transition rate from Grade 11 to Grade 12 is low. As for SPRCNHS, among 294 students who entered in June 2012, 204 students proceeded to Grade 12 and only 192 students completed the study in April 2014. The main reasons for this dropout are (1) students who could afford tuition went to higher education, and (2) students who went for OJT were employed there and did not return to school.

The importance of completing 12-year education is not yet recognized by students, parents and society. Towards full implementation of Senior High School Program in 2016, the Project Team together with DepED will promote relevance of tech-voc in 12-year education.
