Competitive Grant Project (CGP) has been implemented

6 model schools have started activities utilizing the Competitive Grants from the project. In CGP, each school proposes a project which aims to improve educational activities in the school. The Project team has supported the selected schools within the limit of PHP 1 million budget.

As already posted in the project news dated 2015-2-14, 6 model schools out of 10 were selected as the recipients of CGP. Those schools are offering SHS program during this school year (2015/2016). The targeted 6 model schools are:

Industrial Arts SchoolsOpol National Secondary Technical School (ONSTS)
Tagum National Trade School (TNTS)
Fishery SchoolsBataan School of Fisheries (BSF)
Iligan City National School of Fisheries (ICNSF)
Agricultural SchoolsBukig National Agricultural Technical School (BNATS)
Rogongon Agricultural High School (RAHS)

The Project team visited the 6 model schools and discussed the current situation/issues and how to solve the issues on SHS education. Each model school decided a main issue to be solved. They developed a project plan (PDM: Project Design Matrix (PDM) in order to solve the main issue together with the Project team. Those projects are expected to be models of SHS after ‘K to 12' full implementation next year. Based on PDM, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed among the school, the Schools Division Superintendent of Dep.ED, and the Project team. It was followed by procurement and construction works. Procurement work was completed and the schools are now ready to implement the planned activities.

The main activity and the status of each CGP are shown in the table below.

In October 2015, principals and teachers from these model schools went to Japan for JICA training. After the training, it seems that the principals and teachers were more motivated to implement the activities. The Project team will continue monitoring of the six recipient schools of the Competitive Grant Program.
