The Satisfaction Survey Conducted!

The Labor-Based Technology (LBT) is a term used for labor intensive road maintenance technology with some limited machines such as grader.

The Project requires a satisfaction survey on road maintenance to monitor and assess levels of effects on rural road maintenance; a pre- test of the questionnaire survey of local residents the Chamwino district Chiboli village, with experience of LBT, was conducted to confirm satisfaction of their in any point of view and the indicators.

As a result, the questions items of the survey are as follows:

  • Transportation time
  • Convenience
  • Year round accessibility
  • Drainage situation
  • Suspended dust particle condition by vehicles
  • Traffic accident
  • Transport of agricultural products
  • Changes in the number of customers to local stores
  • Changes in revenue
  • Willingness to participate to LBT projects

In the pre-test, the satisfaction level of the residents in Chiboli village was 47%. (The sample size was 31 respondents. The final figure of the satisfaction level is targeted to 75%.) The village people expressed willingness to take part in LBT projects. There were three major reasons: 1) LBT project generate income to purchase food and pay tuition among other expenses to be covered; 2) Accessibility would be improved by road construction; 3) Crop prices will be improved as accessibly to the markets would be improved.

Other opinions included were: Food shall be supplied rather than wages; the works shall be conducted during the dry season when farming is less active. These voices were well expressed to consider methods and periods of implementing LBT projects. Comments and opinions from the residents are to be reflected in conducting the Project as it ensures good working environments for the residents.
