Vol.15 November, 2014
Hello. I am Shama Amanzi and I work as Road Technician of Chamwino district in Dodoma region. I visited Japan to study road maintenance skills and knowledge in Japan together with other Tanzanian trainees from August 24th to September 10th. We have learned and experienced a lot in Japan and I would like to share the lessons and experience in this newsletter.
1. Lectures in local municipalities and universities
We took a lot of lectures regarding rural road maintenance in several regions such as Tokyo, Saitama, Aomori, and Kochi. Some local municipalities and universities gave us thoughtful lectures. I was very impressed with the rural road maintenance system in Japan.
2. Practical training
Adding to classroom lectures, we also experienced some practical trainings using instruments and site visit. Since there were some maintenance instruments and maintenance vehicles that we do not have in Tanzania, we learned a lot from the trainings.
3. Action Plans in future
We created the action plans in future at the last of the training in Japan, putting together the skills and knowledge we learned in Japan. We are going to suggest these action plans to the relevant government ministry or agency.
4. Food, culture, and sightseeing
During the stay in Japan, we also did sightseeing in Aomori and Kyoto. We were also impressed with the food and architectural structure. We were very surprised with the difference in culture between Tanzania and Japan and we enjoyed the difference very much at the same time.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank JICA and persons concerns hosting us for providing such an outstanding chance to study in Japan.
