JICA-NIHE Project Office implemented survey on biosafety situation in provincial center of preventive medicine (PCPM) in the northern provinces.

Among 28 PCPMs in the northern provinces, the Project selected 3 PCPMs that have function to direct other PCPMs of surrounding provinces. Staffs of pilot PCPMs will attend training courses on biosafety, Good Microbiology Technique (GMT) and these PCPMs will be supported with biosafety equipment. The Project worked with Yen Bai PCPM in November 16th, Thai Nguyen PCPM in November 17th and Nghe An PCPM in November 22nd. After that, experts discussed with person in charge of biosafety in PCPMs about the concerning issues. Participants included Dr. Shinohara (expert on biosafety in NIID), Mr. Miki (expert on laboratory maintenance from SUGA company, Japan), Dr. Thuy (Head of Biosafety and Quality Management Department, NIHE), Dr. Yoneyama (Chief Advisor of JICA-NIHE Project), Mr. Ikari (Project Coordinator) and Mr. Dung (Biosafety and Quality Management Department, NIHE).

PCPMs play an important role in ensuring food hygiene and less likely related to infectious diseases. Therefore, they would like to learn knowledge and technique on biosafety and GMT. Most of biosafety cabinets was supported by ADB projects, however, they have not been check and maintained regularly. Therefore, PCPMs requested technical support from the project.

Participants from PCPMs included Mr. Tran Viet Thang (Director) and Ms. Le Thi Hong Van (Vice Director) in Yen Bai PCPM; Mr. Nguyen Le Minh (Director) and Mr. Pham The Vu from Thai Nguyen PCPM and Mr. Chu Trong Trang (Vice Director) and Ms. Truong Thi Chinh from Nghe An PCPM.
