Training course on Influenza diagnosis (Sequencing)

Training course on Influenza laboratory diagnosis was organized in Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (TIHE) from November 20 – 23rd. Lecturers included MSc. Hoang Vu Mai Phuong, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Linh (National Influenza Center, NIHE) and Dr. Kageyama (NIID). Total number of participants was 13 people including 9 staffs from TIHE, 2 staffs from PINT and 2 staffs from PIHCMC.

According to request from TIHE, this training course focused on the theory and practice of sequencing analysis. Genetic analysis of Influenza virus should be established in core laboratories of network because it provides a rapid and effective method. To analyze properties of Influenza virus such as antigenecity (which HN?), receptor specificity (easily transmitted to human?), pathogenecity (high or low?) and drug-resistance (which drug is effective?).. The training course also introduced analysis software and data analysis method freely available in website. This training course provided participants including NIHE and other Institutes the opportunities to share information with each other in order to develop laboratory network based on genetic diagnosis. It is suggested that a versatile software of genetic analysis with user-friendly and supporting system should be introduced in laboratory network to improve the capacity of genetic analysis.
