Training course for laboratory diagnosis of avian Influenza virus was organized in Pasteur Institute of NhaTrang (PINT) in from July 8 to 10. Lecturers included Dr.Mai Phuong and her colleagues (NIC;National Influenza Center, NIHE), and Dr. Kageyama (Influenza virus Research Center, NIID, Japan). Total number of participants was 11 people including staffs from NIC, PIHCMC and regional Institutes such as Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City (PIHCMC).

This training course was organized focusing on quality management of genetic test with Real-time RT-PCR and direct fluorescence RT-LAMP method including a wide range of basic knowledge on the reaction and laboratory techniques. In practice, participants identified the type and subtype of samples by the Real-time RT-PCR with a EQA (External Quality Assurance) panel for Influenza virus, which contains various types and subtypes of human and avian Influenza virus prepared by staff of NIC, NIHE. Furthermore, they performed a new genetic simple/rapid method, Direct fluorescence RT-LAMP, which could detect a target virus sequence amplified by LAMP by assaying quenching of fluorescence- probe specific to each type and subtype of Influenza virus. Discussion on the points of question posed by participants and trouble-shooting allowed them to understand the reaction pattern and keep in mind which points to pay attention in order to reach the accurate and precise diagnosis from the view point of quality management. Program for augmentation of quality assurance in testing should be implanted such as EQA program in the future because quality management system for diagnosis has not been established in regional institutes except NIHE.
