The second Joint Workshop entitled Effective mainstreaming of climate change policies into practice was held in Bangkok on 3rd May 2019. This Joint Seminar has served as the second session of the regional dialogue series embarked in conjunction with the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between MONRE and Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) in August 2017, with an aim to share experiences and lessons to respond to climate change. SPI-NAMA has backed up the smooth implementation of the events, in collaborating with MONRE and TGO, leading to a meaningful support to further promote capacity development activities under the collaboration between MONRE and TGO and increase the ownership of MONRE on building sustainable international collaboration.
At this second seminar, Vietnam's foremost experts leading on climate change policy development have visited Thailand, and the representatives from both countries made presentations on GHG inventory, national MRV system and climate finance, followed by the Q&A and discussion session. Through this seminar, the participants from Vietnam and Thailand had the meaningful opportunity to overview the development of climate change policies in each country and share the challenges and lessons for deeper discussions.
The seminar started with remarks from representatives and introduction, followed by the presentations sharing concrete experiences in climate change policy development in both countries. At the presentations, the technical supports such as mitigation policy development at national level in Vietnam conducted by SPI-NAMA were highlighted by the speakers, while the positive efforts of MONRE and MPI (Ministry of Planning and Investment) were also remarked by the audience. During the seminar, both MONRE and TGO expressed that it is great opportunity and they would like to continue their collaboration, learning and discussions under the MoC, in exchanging the lessons and challenges in climate change policy development.
