Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), is an international conference on the theme of development in Africa. The first conference (TICADⅠ) was held in 1993 under the leadership of the Japanese government. Since then, TICAD has been organized in collaboration with the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the World Bank.

TICAD is an open forum in which not only African countries but also international organizations, the private sector, and civil society engaging in Africa’s development will participate, and where their wisdom and efforts will be concentrated and discussed that will truly lead to the development of Africa. TICAD values African ownership and international partnership.

This year, the 8th TICAD (TICAD 8) will take place in the Republic of Tunisia. This will be the second time that TICAD is held in Africa, following TICADVI hosted by Kenya in 2016.
