Background
Japan is leading international discussions on achieving UHC in Africa; for example, Japan co-hosted a high-level event with the World Bank and others on UHC in Africa at TICAD6 in 2016. The on-going global COVID-19 pandemic is causing serious issues for Africa such as declining economic growth rates and income levels, as well as worsening fiscal and debt sustainability. In this context, there is a growing awareness of the importance of collaboration with the private sector and of creating innovation from the private sector in the health sector and thereby maximizing private sector financing. Japan has been leading global discussions on UHC and there is a need to discuss new ways to proceeds further cooperation with Africa in this field.

- What kind of technologies and products of Japanese companies and the Japanese private sector can contribute toward achieving UHC in Africa?
