Humans have been migrating since antiquity. They did so before nations ever existed, and they have continued doing so even after nations were created. In the modern era, Japanese have been leaving Japan for other countries for around 150 years.
This exhibit provides information on Japanese emigration to other countries during those years. The main part of the exhibit is a map of Japan that shows the prefectures and areas from which those emigrants came. After viewing the map, you can also watch a video about the history of emigration around the world.
