Bangladesh's economic structure is overly dependent on exports of sewn products and remittances from overseas workers. In order to sustain economic growth that supports a higher standard of living for the people of the country, it is necessary to diversify by developing industries that are competitive on both the domestic and export markets, especially the manufacturing industry.

In light of this situation, and through the previous phase of this project, which ran from 2017 to 2022, JICA has been working to improve the business environment, promote investment, back policies and measures related to the promotion of supporting industries, and develop the management system for special economic zones in Bangladesh. While focusing on further advancing the development of supporting industries and strengthening industrial competitiveness, this new project will utilize and develop the results of strengthening the industrial promotion system. In particular, the project will support industrial human resource development and the formation of linkages between foreign and local companies. In doing so, it will contribute to the enhancement of industrial competitiveness and industrial promotion, as well as to the achievement of SDGs Goals 8 (Decent work and economic growth) and 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure).
