Headline

As Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine, it has become crucial to deal with cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure facilities that supports people’s lives in Ukraine. Under such circumstances, JICA, in cooperation with CRDF, conducted a cybersecurity training (HackWave) in Kyiv, Ukraine, for the government personnel and critical infrastructure operators. To prepare for an air raid alert that could be issued at any moment, Ukrainian cyber experts gathered for a practical training session in the underground parking space of a hotel in Kyiv.

Detail

Approximately 100 participants from the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) and critical infrastructure facilities operators participated in the training to improve their knowledge to prepare for cyber-attacks and strengthen their technical capabilities to detect and respond appropriately to cyber-attacks. The training, which included practical exercises such as simulating a cyber-attack on critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, provided an opportunity for participants to learn how to defend against cyber-attacks while engaging in lively discussions among themselves.
It is expected that the knowledge and skills gained from this training course will be used to enhance Ukraine's cybersecurity resilience and contribute to strengthening the foundation of national security. From Japan, National center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NICS), NTT Corporation and the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, in addition to JICA, took part in the training, and through the exchange of views, we were able to strengthen cooperation between Japan and Ukraine in the field of cybersecurity.
JICA will continue to cooperate with other institutions and organizations to respond timely and flexibly to the needs of partner governments.
