Contract Signing of Package 2 and Package3 under ODA Loan Project Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (Zone 1) (IP-581)

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of Public Works and Housing conducted a contract signing ceremony for Package 2 (Construction of Sewers in Area 1-1) and Package 3 (Construction of Sewers in Area 1-2), with the bid winner, Joint Venture of Kumagai Gumi Co. Ltd, PT. Wijaya Karya (Persero), Tbk, and PT. Jaya Konstruksi Manggala Pratama, Tbk., under Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (Zone 1) (IP-581). The contract signing for these 2 (two) packages officially marks the beginning of construction of Zone 1 sewerage system in Jakarta, after the successful contract signing of Consulting Service Supervision package in October 2022; Package 1 (Construction of Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)) in December 2022; and Package 4 (Construction of Sewers in Pilot Area) in March 2023.

Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (Zone 1) (IP-581)

Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (Zone 1) is a project funded by Official Development Assistance (ODA) Loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with total amount of 57,061 million JPY. This project aims to improve wastewater treatment and sanitation access in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. The sewerage system later introduced under the project, which consists of sewer network and WWTP, is expected to contribute on the improving of Jakarta’s water environment, its citizens’ living conditions and urban development.

Zone 1 sewerage area is one of the most prioritized areas out of 15 zones in Jakarta. The WWTP site will take place in Pluit, and will adopt Anoxic-Anaerobic-Aerobic (A2O) process, combined with membrane bio-reactor system (MBR) due to its compact size to fit the limited site. Construction period of WWTP will take 54 months, including 18 months period for Defect Notification Period (DNP) and Operation and Maintenance (O&M), including O&M training for operator.

While, for sewer networks, total of 14.3 km (in Area 1-1) and 24.9 km (in Area 1-2) will be constructed under the project. The construction will last for 48 months, including 12 months period for DNP. After project completion, it is expected that, in 2027, this project will serve 989,389 persons in Jakarta, and be able to treat 200,000 m3 of wastewater per day.
