Grade 4 students of Sogeri Primary School participated in a Cultural Exchange Program between 5 Primary Schools in Japan and a Japanese School in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The online event took place on Tuesday, 05th March 2024 with the Theme of “Cultural Exchange through Music.” The Sogeri students demonstrated 4 traditional dances whilst students in Japan enjoyed dancing along with instruments they made from waste materials, like empty cans.

On the day, parents of the Sogeri students were dressed in traditional costumes, showing how important culture and customs are passed down through generations. A parent commented saying, "The international class is a valuable experience for the students and I'm happy that we could share Papua New Guinea's culture with Japan through this event.”

A Sogeri student said, "I love Japanese culture and food, we'll be dancing on our Independence Day, and I really want my friends from Japan to watch us dance." They are looking forward to the next online class.

The children's exchange across the sea will continue in the future.
