Two Former JICA Volunteers Return to Palau

On the 6th of December, two former JICA Volunteers returned to Palau to resume their activities as Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV). Ms. Atsuko Hosokawa, who was working as a nutritionist for Food Service Program of Ministry of Education, and Mr. Tsukasa Maeda, who was working as a lecturer of air conditioning course at Palau Community College, had to go back to Japan in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, they have been waiting for their re-dispatch, keeping their enthusiasm to contribute to the development of Palau. Finally, they came back to Palau after a year and eight month. For the next 6 months, Hosokawa works in the same office (MOE) and Maeda works in a new office, Bureau of Public Works of Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Industries.

With the re-dispatch of the 2 JOCVs, the total number of active JICA volunteers working in Palau is now 5. The dispatch of JOCVs to Palau is expected to be in the full swing from next year. JOCVs will be about 20 in total by the end of 2022, based on the requests from the Government of Palau.
