Federated States of Micronesia

With the exception of small-scale agriculture (copra or dried coconut meat) and fishing, there are no major industries in the Federated States of Micronesia, making the country dependent on imports for many living necessities. About 50 percent of the government's total revenue is fiscal assistance based on the Compact of Free Association with the US. Overcoming vulnerabilities by such as the proper treatment of solid waste which is rapidly increasing due to factors such as changes in living styles, and providing minimal basic infrastructures is key to socioeconomic development in the Federated States of Micronesia. JICA provides assistance with a focus on controlling the generation of waste and maintaining lifelines.
