Uganda's Natural Resources Management Project Team participates in Study tour in Ethiopia
This project has successfully facilitated a study tour for "The Sustainable Natural Resources Management and Enhanced Refugee-Host Coexistence Project in the West Nile Sub-region (SUNReC)".
In Uganda's West Nile Sub-region, the community's high dependence on wood resources for energy and housing has led to a critical decline in forest cover. This issue is compounded by the fact that the region hosts approximately 63% of Uganda's refugees.
To address this challenge, a study tour was conducted from September 15 to 19, 2025, to allow a team from the Ugandan project to observe the activities of a similar project in Ethiopia. The main objective of this training was to learn about the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach, in Ethiopia, FFS is specifically utilized to teach agroforestry, which is a sustainable land-use system combining agriculture and forestry.
The Ugandan team visited project sites in the Jimma Zone, Oromia Region, where they observed FFS in action and exchanged ideas with farmers who have participated in the program.
The experience gained from this study tour will provide crucial insights for the future implementation of FFS in Uganda, promoting sustainable natural resources management.
