Workshop Toward the Formalization of the FFS Implementation Management and Human Resource Development Guidelines Held

The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) of Ethiopia developed the draft “FFS Implementation Management and Human Resource Development Guidelines” with support from the JICA Project for Strengthening Climate Resilience through Climate-Smart Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management in Ethiopia. As part of the process toward formalization, the MoA and JICA co-hosted a workshop in Adama City.

The workshop was attended by a total of 42 participants, led by Ms. Yenenesh Egu, Lead Executive Officer for Extension at the Ministry of Agriculture, and including officials in charge of agricultural extension from regional bureaus, as well as representatives of development partners such as FAO and SNV. Participants actively reviewed the draft guidelines, focusing on training management as well as sustainability-related aspects, including FFS quality control and monitoring, and engaged in active question-and-answer sessions and exchanges of views.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Yenenesh highlighted that the draft guidelines had been developed through teamwork between the MoA and the JICA Project. She emphasized the significance of the document, stating, “These guidelines will serve as an important standard for properly managing key activities, such as facilitator training, and for monitoring the outcomes of the FFS approach in each region.”

The MoA expects to finalize the English version of the draft guidelines by July and translate them into Amharic around September, with nationwide rollout expected thereafter.
