Short-term researchers activities(Chief Researcher, Wastewater treatment, Low carbonization)
Three Japanese researchers worked in Bangkok from 1st to 4th September 2025
Dr. Masaaki Morikawa:(Chief Researcher: Hokkaido Univ.)
Dr. Tadashi Toyama:(G5: Univ. of Yamanashi)
Dr. Yoshitaka Ebie:(G6: National Institute for Environmental Sutudies)
Summary
They mainly held research discussions about low carbonization with each group involved in the development of duckweed utilization technology. They visited a pilot site of duckweed-based wastewater treatment ponds at a pig farm in Lop Buri province to confirm the status of duckweed growth and reviewed the ongoing greenhouse gas emission measurements.
Dr. Morikawa had a preparatory meeting with the Thai-side managers for the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting scheduled for later this month. Furthermore, he met with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wanchai Pleumphanuphat, the newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science at Kasetsart University and Deputy Project Director, to confirm future collaboration and the organization of the upcoming JCC meeting.
Note
The project consists of six research groups namely: G1: Duckweed Holobiont Resource & Research Center (DHbRC). G2: Duckweed holobiont collection. G3: Duckweed holobiont analysis and biotechnology. G4: Duckweed biomass utilization. G5: Duckweed wastewater treatment technology. G6: Social implementation activities toward BCG economy.
