CBNRM training conducted for MALFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry) and NGO officers working in other priority watersheds

This project promotes the dissemination and expansion of Community-based Sustainable Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) in four selected priority watersheds in Timor-Leste. A three-day training program was conducted for government officials, including municipal presidents, and NGO representatives from five municipalities that encompass other priority watersheds outside the project’s target areas, namely, Lautem, Viqueque, Baucau, Bobonaro and Oecusse.

The training included an introduction to CBNRM and field visits. Participants shared the following insights:

  • I realized that cooperation between staff from the MALFF and field officers is crucial for implementing CBNRM.
  • Although some villages in my municipality have established village regulations, they are often not followed. I believe it is important that the CBNRM process be detailed and carefully managed until these regulations are officially approved.

The training provided a solid foundation for understanding CBNRM. Moving forward, the project aims to expand initiatives in each municipality and closely monitors the interest and involvement of development partners in implementing CBNRM, with the goal of further promoting its adoption.
