Tree-planting events conducted in project target villages to mitigate landslide risks

In the project’s target villages, community members regularly discuss issues related to natural disasters and forest resources through monthly village meetings. By making use of village regulations developed with support from the project, these discussions have contributed to advancing local problem-solving efforts within the community.

Many of the target villages have repeatedly reported landslides, making countermeasures an urgent priority. In response to this situation, the project, together with partner NGOs providing on-the-ground support to communities and counterparts from municipal authorities, has engaged in a series of consultations to develop support measures aimed at reducing disaster risks.

As a result, the counterparts decided to provide seedlings produced in municipal nurseries to areas affected by landslides, and these seedlings have recently been distributed to selected target villages in Aileu, Manufahi, and Ainaro Municipalities.

Following the distribution, tree‑planting events were organized in each village, during which community members planted trees at landslide-affected sites. This initiative represents a good practice of collaboration between counterparts from municipal authorities and local communities, who proactively worked together to reduce disaster risks.

The project will continue to promote such collaboration through technical and institutional support to sustain and further strengthen local initiatives.
