“Tara Bandu” ceremony was held in Leorema village in the Comoro watershed
The “Tara Bandu” which is traditional ceremony in Timor-Leste was held in Leorema village on February 21, 2024.
Administrative officials, including the President Authority of Municipal of Liquica, leaders of neighboring villages, and MAF officers, attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, relevant parties signed the village regulation that was developed in Leorema with support from the project and it was officially brought into force.
It is expected to reduce the number of forest fire and illegal cutting which is cause of deforestation by publicizing the village regulation developed by the community during Tara Bandu.
From now on, Leorema village will manage natural resources including forest in accordance with the village regulation. The project will continue to support Leorema village in managing their natural resources properly.
This ceremony was also bought up by GMN TV which is major media in Timor-Leste.
