Orientation Workshop for Surveyors of the Endline Survey

On 14th and 15th August 2025, an orientation workshop was held in Kadoma, Mashonaland West Province, for the surveyors of the endline survey.
In this project, in order to foster ownership of quality improvement initiatives among the target hospitals and to promote mutual learning among the target hospitals, some parts of the data collection for the baseline and endline surveys are entrusted to the quality focal persons of the target hospitals.

For the endline survey, as with the baseline survey, three surveyors from each of the 14 target hospitals, totaling 42 participants, were selected and attended this workshop. Through the workshop, they deepened their understanding of the outline of the endline survey, the survey items, the tools, and the data collection methods.

Since this project will end in April 2026, the endline survey will be conducted from August to November 2025 to compare with the situation at the start of the project, and to confirm the achievements and remaining challenges for further improvement.

The endline survey consists of three parts:
1. Hospital survey by surveyors selected from the target hospitals from August to September,
2. Self-data collection at Provincial Medical Director’s office, and
3. Hospital survey by the QAPS Directorate and Japanese Expert Team from October to November.

Survey targets and main survey items are as follows:

On the first day of the workshop, the project team explained the outline of the project, the position of the endline survey within the project framework, the survey methods, and the survey items. The endline survey tools include various formats — paper forms, Excel, Google Forms, and the smartphone application Kobo Toolbox (which can collect data offline). Therefore, detailed explanations were provided using PowerPoint presentations and survey implementation guides.

On the second day, smartphones for the survey were handed over to the target hospitals, and a demonstration session was held to practice using the Kobo Toolbox app.

Through hands-on practice, surveyors gained a deeper understanding of the survey tools.

With the surveyors who participated in this workshop, the endline survey will officially begin in the third week of August 2025.
