The JICA Environmental Policy Adviser for the Ministry of Environment (MOE), Government of Cambodia, led to conduct the “MOE/JICA Study Tour on Municipal Solid Waste Management for counterparts in pilot sites in collaboration with Kitakyushu City in Japan”. As part of the tour, a Solid Waste Management Conference was conducted in Siem Reap and our project participated in the conference as the smart city initiative puts priority in the field of waste management as one of the issues to be solved.

The conference was held on 26th October 2023 with the participation of Kitakyushu City, MoE, JICA, subnational government official from Siem Reap, Phnon Penh, Battambang, and private companies in Japan/Siem Reap.

The conference was an opportunity to discuss on the issues and future vision of the solid waste management from the different perspective of the participants. Our project made a presentation on the initiatives of Siem Reap Smart City as well as the pilot project of the smart waste (result of the time and motion survey on waste collection and transportation) .

The conference was important occasion to share the information and strengthen the connection between wide range of stakeholders, and will contribute to the improvement of solid waste management in Cambodia.
