Mauritius Coastal Ecosystem Management: Project Outline and 2nd CEMC Meeting (2023-03-21)

The "Project for the Development of Integrated Coastal Ecosystem Management System in the Republic of Mauritius (Phase I)" was launched in May 2022. This project aims to develop an integrated coastal ecosystem management system and contribute to nourishing healthier and more resilient coastal ecosystem through (1) establishing a Coastal Ecosystem Management Committee (CEMC) and formulating Conservation and Restoration Plan, (2) collecting scientific information through ecosystem monitoring, (3) formulating the action plans on ecosystem conservation , restoration and ecotourism promotion, (4) implementing the action plans in collaboration with multi-stakeholder, and (5) conducting awareness-raising activities for local communities and tourists.

The second meeting of CEMC was held on March 17, 2023. A total of 41 people participated in this meeting from the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping (MoBEMRFS), Albion Fisheries Research Center (AFRC), as well as other related organizations.

The project is divided into Phase I and Phase II. Activities such as the Coastal Ecosystem Restoration Action Plan, which will be implemented in Phase II, were discussed.
