Certificate of Appreciation from Cambodia’s Ministry of Health for Support to Cervical Cancer Control

To help strengthen capacity of the Cambodian Ministry of Health (MoH) to control cervical cancer—one of the goals of the NCD Control Project—the JICA team has been providing technical support for the MoH’s Technical Working Group on Cervical Cancer, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of referral hospitals, drafting the “Clinical Manual on Colposcopy, Thermal Ablation and Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure for Cervical Cancer Management”, and the developing training plans based on the manual.

In December 2025 and April 2026, training of trainers (ToT) was conducted utilizing the manual for obstetricians/gynecologists at three national hospitals who will serve as trainers (*1). The JICA team received a certificate of appreciation for its technical support. Going forward, the MoH plans to hold cascade training (*2) for doctors at other national and provincial hospitals, led by the trained instructors.

*1 Prior to the NCD Control Project, from 2015 to 2024, JICA contributed to Cambodia’s cervical cancer control efforts through the JICA Grassroots Technical Cooperation Project (a collaborative project between the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Cambodian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology). The project supported gynecologists of three national hospitals in acquiring cervical cancer-related skills, including HPV testing, colposcopy diagnosis, and treatment of precancerous lesions, and certified 13 gynecologists as trainers.
*2 Cascade training refers to an approach in which training is expanded in a stepwise and sequential manner, whereby trained instructors provide guidance to physicians at other national hospitals and regional level, enabling knowledge and skills to be disseminated progressively and widely.
