Handover of the Clinical Manual on Colposcopy, Thermal Ablation, and Loop Electrosurgical Excision for Cervical Cancer Management to the Ministry of Health
On 1 June, at the opening of Cambodia’s first Training on Cervical Cancer Management for Physicians from National and Provincial Hospitals, 500 copies of the Clinical Manual on Colposcopy, Thermal Ablation and Loop Electrosurgical Excision for Cervical Cancer Management were handed over from JICA to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Developed through close collaboration between the MoH and JICA under the NCD Control Project, this clinical manual provides practical, standardized guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of cervical precancerous lesions at national and sub-national referral hospitals. JICA team drafted the original English version, and the MoH’s Technical Working Group for Cervical Cancer members carefully reviewed the content and translated it into Khmer.
Importantly, JICA’s support for cervical cancer control in Cambodia builds upon a previous grassroots technical cooperation project implemented by the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Cambodia Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology between 2015 and 2024. Through this project, gynecologists at 3 national hospitals gained essential skills in cervical cancer management and were certified as trainers. The current NCD Control Project is collaborating with these trainers to formulate the clinical manual and the training curriculum, aiming to build a sustainable system for nationwide expansion.
Following the official handover of the clinical manual, a 5-day training session successfully commenced, featuring national trainers as lecturers.
