Kampong Cham Begins Using Newly Developed and Ministry-Approved Patient Education Tools for Diabetes Care

On 19 June 2026, Kampong Cham Provincial Health Department (PHD) conducted a dissemination session on patient education tools for diabetes care, under the Noncommunicable Disease (NCD) Control Project.

Developed by the Project and refined through several rounds of consultations with relevant stakeholders, the tools were initially introduced for use in hospitals in Kampong Cham following approval by the Minister of Health.

The session introduced three tools: the Self-Care Guidebook for Diabetic Patients, an HbA1c awareness poster, and a Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) screening promotion poster. Participants included representatives from the Preventive Medicine Department (PMD) of MoH, Kampong Cham PHD, all Operational District (OD) diabetes and hypertension focal persons, NCD Clinic doctors, and nurses.

Participants reviewed the purpose of each tool and key messages for explaining diabetes self-care, HbA1c testing, and DR screening to patients. During the discussion, one OD asked whether the diabetes self-care guidebook could also be used at health centers. PMD and PHD confirmed that it could be used as a patient education tool at health centers.

Selected hospitals conducted short role-play demonstrations to practice patient explanations. The tools were then distributed to participating hospitals for use in routine patient education and counseling.

Through this activity, Kampong Cham PHD aims to promote better patient understanding of diabetes self-care, regular monitoring of blood glucose control, and early detection of diabetic retinopathy.
