Workshop Held on Supply and Stock Management of Essential NCD Medicines
On August 6, 2026, the Project supported the Kampong Cham Provincial Health Department (PHD) in organizing a Workshop on the Supply and Stock Management of Essential NCD Medicines. Approximately 60 participants from the Ministry of Health (MoH)’s Department of Drugs and Food (DDF), Preventive Medicine Department (PMD) and Central Medical Store (CMS), as well as Operational District Health Offices (ODs) and Provincial and District Referral Hospitals participated.
At the workshop, hospital staff shared operational challenges, such as supply shortages and stock management issues driven by the increasing demand for insulin, antihypertensives, and anti-cholesterol agents. Improvement measures were discussed with officials from MoH, PHD and ODs. The main points agreed were as follows:
- Ensure accurate entry of prescription and consumption data, as proper system reporting is a prerequisite for requesting (ordering) medicines from CMS.
- Conduct periodic inventory reviews at each hospital to avoid overstocking and stock-outs.
- For out-of-stock medicines, flexibly adapt by changing prescriptions to alternative drugs within the same therapeutic class or procuring small batches using hospital user fees.
- Establish the routine operation of pharmacy accounts within the NCD Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Moving forward, PHD plans to follow up on stock management and the operation of NCD EMR pharmacy accounts across the nine Provincial and District Referral Hospitals. The Project will continue to support Cambodia’s efforts to ensure a stable supply of essential NCD medicines to strengthen diabetes and hypertension services.
