On July 30, 2025, Mr. Pornyod Klankrong, Director General of the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), and Mr. Kazunao Shibata, Deputy Director of the Environmental Management Group, Global Environment Department, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held a meeting on a Thailand–Japan technical cooperation project. The meeting discussed the direction for establishing an End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) management system in Thailand.
This project will be implemented over a period of three and a half years in collaboration with relevant agencies, including the Department of Land Transport, Pollution Control Department, Department of Local Administration, Department of Health, Fiscal Policy Office, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and the Thailand Automotive Institute.
The objective of the project is to establish effective management methods for ELVs and used vehicles in Thailand, thereby reducing environmental impacts while contributing to the promotion of a circular economy through the efficient use of resources. Specific measures include the proper treatment of ELVs, promotion of reuse of parts and materials, and prevention of hazardous substance leakage.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged information, opinions, and experiences, and discussed the feasibility and future framework for cooperation. JICA expressed its commitment to supporting the sustainable and environmentally friendly development of Thailand’s industrial sector through the transfer of Japanese knowledge and technology, while DIW affirmed its role as the lead implementing agency on the Thai side. It was also confirmed that cooperation with the JICA expert team stationed in Thailand would be strengthened to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
