Study Trip to Japan

From October 27 to 31, 2025, as part of the activities under Output 2 of the project, a Study Trip to Japan was conducted. The purpose of this visit was to learn from Japanese universities’ educational practices on incorporating cybersecurity elements into the curricula of non-cybersecurity disciplines at MUST-SICT (Mongolian University of Science and Technology – School of Information and Communication Technology). This initiative aims to enhance the integration of cybersecurity education across different faculties in Mongolia.
The Study Trip included the Dean of SICT and the Head of the Academic Affairs, along with one staff member each from the Departments of Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, and Computer Science. In addition, two professors from Mongolian National University (NUM)—from the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Electronic & Communication Engineering—joined the delegation, bringing the total number of participants to eight.

During the trip, participants visited Tokyo University of Science, Tokai University, and Shibaura Institute of Technology, and attended an online lecture from Tokyo Denki University. Japanese universities generally offer structured cybersecurity courses that are also available as elective options for students from other disciplines. At each university, participants received comprehensive briefings and engaged in discussions on faculty and department structures, curriculum and syllabus development processes, the scope of cybersecurity education, ICT infrastructure management, and campus security measures. Laboratory and facility tours provided additional insight, making the Study Trip a highly valuable and informative experience for all participants.

The knowledge gained from this visit will serve as an important reference for developing new cybersecurity courses in Mongolian universities. Practical guidance on syllabus and curriculum design will directly support planning and implementation upon return. MUST-SICT plans to compile the results of the Study Trip into an Action Plan, which will guide discussions on next year’s project activities.

Furthermore, once the development of new courses is formally underway, there are plans to invite professors from the Japanese universities visited to Mongolia to provide on-site guidance and participate in academic exchanges. This approach is expected to further strengthen practical teaching capabilities and improve the quality of curricula in Mongolian universities.
