News#16 SIMPUT-Maputo Dissemination Seminar (Workshop) (September 2024)

The Dissemination Seminar (workshop) on the (draft) SIMPUT-Maputo (Strategic Implementation Master Plan for Urban Transport System in Maputo Metropolitan Area) was held on September 12th, 2024. The workshop brought together key stakeholders such as representatives from the counterpart departments of CMM, neighboring municipalities, MTC, AMT, public transport operators in each municipality, associations, Maputo Municipality police, NGO, JICA Mozambique, and METRAP-Maputo JICA experts,. The main objective was to disseminate the contents of the draft SIMPUT-Maputo and to collect feedback from the participants in order to utilize it.

The workshop started with a brief presentation of the objectives and outputs of the METRAP-Maputo project, followed by a detailed presentation of the SIMPUT-Maputo and its five chapters by the counterpart and the project team. After that, the workshop carried out interactive activities to collect feedback on the SIMPUT-Maputo. The activities for chapters 1 to 4 were carried out using the Mentimenter application on the participants' smart phones. For chapter 5, a total of 9 roundtable discussions of different organizations were conducted to collect their perspectives on the coordination mechanism of the SIMPUT-Maputo implementation, the organization in charge and its main roles and functions. A lot of feedback was received.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Fernando Uache, CMM Councilor, who praised the collaborative spirit and insightful feedback shared throughout the event.

The discussions set the stage for continued cooperation between the metropolitan municipalities in the pursuit of sustainable urban public transport that addresses the pressing transport challenges in the Maputo metropolitan area.
