News#25 METRAP-Maputo Dissemination Seminar (October 2025)

The METRAP-Maputo Dissemination Seminar was held on October 8th, 2025. The seminar brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from CMM's counterpart departments, neighboring municipalities, AMT, relevant ministries, public transport operators from each municipality, Association of App-Based Transport Operators, AMVIRO, INCM, NGOs, Embassy of Japan, JICA Mozambique Office, JICA Headquarters in Tokyo, and the METRAP-Maputo JICA Experts. METRAP-Maputo has reached its final stages. The seminar included presentations of project's results and a short animated film for introduction of SIMPUT-Maputo, followed by a panel discussion and a poster session. In the opening remarks, the Mayor of the Maputo City Council recognized METRAP-Maputo's achievements, and the JICA representative in Mozambique emphasized the project’s important role in promoting the efficient management of public transportation and reflected on the collaborative efforts involved in the project and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their commitment, highlighting the significance of sustainable urban mobility for the future of Maputo.

The presentation session provided an overview of the project's three outputs and the results. These outputs included the SIMPUT-Maputo, the CDR dashboard (output 1); the manual for maintenance, operation, KPI, GTFS and opening of Google Map public route search, improvement of pilot works at the Zimpeto bus terminal (output 2); and the two TOD guidelines (output 3).

The panel discussion session consisted of the Councilor of Mobility, Transport, and Traffic (VMTT); Administrator of the Operations and Traffic Division of EMTPM; the Technical Administrator of AMT; the project team leader of the JICA Experts; and Professor Ryosuke SHIBASAKI 1, Vice President of the Reitaku University in Japan who was a guest member. This session engaged in an interactive discussion with participants using the Mentimeter application 2 on smartphones. The discussions included how to sustain and implement the project results within the scope of SIMPUT-Maputo and other activities, as well as the importance of data collection and informed decision-making for future directions.

SIMPUT-Maputo could enhance citizens' commuting experience. In his closing remarks, Mr. Fernando Uache (VMTT) and the Director of METRAP-Maputo project praised the collaborative spirit and insightful discussions that were shared by the participants.
