News#26 METRAP-Maputo Project Proposals Reflected in EMTPM's Annual Plan at the Annual Meeting (October 2025)

On October 16, 2025, the Maputo Municipal Public Transport Company (EMTPM) held its Annual Staff Meeting, bringing together employees to reflect on the past year's performance and share the business plan for the upcoming year.

During this meeting, it was announced that the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for evaluating bus operations and maintenance, as well as proposals for improving the working environment, introduced by the JICA METRAP-Maputo Project, have been officially incorporated into EMTPM’s annual plan. This marks a significant achievement, demonstrating that the continuous technical guidance provided by the expert team has been deeply understood by EMTPM management and integrated into their organizational operations.

The project has been supporting EMTPM’s finance and operations staff in capacity building, including the analysis of bus operation and fare data, as well as the calculation of break-even points for individual routes. This data-driven approach is now being utilized in EMTPM’s strategic planning, which is expected to lead to the sustainable improvement of public transport services in the Greater Maputo area.

Furthermore, the details of this annual meeting were widely disseminated through posts on EMTPM's official Facebook page. The Project has been continuously sharing the outcomes of such important meetings and activities utilizing social media. Through these public relations and collaborative efforts, the Project has been promoting a deeper awareness and understanding of the initiatives to improve public transport, reaching not only the stakeholders but also the general public.
