News#29 EMTPM Awards Certificate of Recognition to METRAP-Maputo Project and Recognizes Outstanding Mechanics at Year-End Event (December 2025)

On December 19, 2025, the Maputo Municipal Public Transport Company (EMTPM) held its Annual Staff Meeting to reflect on the past year's performance and honor outstanding contributions. During the event, EMTPM awarded a Certificate of Recognition to JICA’s METRAP-Maputo Project in deep appreciation of its strategic collaboration over the past three years.

Mr. Lourenço Albino, President of the Board of Directors of EMTPM, presented the certificate to Mr. Uzawa, the JICA Expert for Bus Operation and Maintenance, who accepted it on behalf of the entire JICA Expert Team. Chairman Albino praised the project’s significant impacts, stating, "Thanks to the commitment of the JICA experts assigned to the METRAP-Maputo Project, we have been making improvements in various areas, from maintenance to operations, including the introduction of GTFS, a system that allows our passengers to plan their journeys using smartphones.". He highlighted JICA as a partner that has stood out for its technical collaboration and support in capacity building for the company's staff.

In addition to honoring the project and recent retirees, the event celebrated individual excellence within EMTPM. Six mechanics were awarded for their dedication to implementing the proper periodic inspection system proposed by the project, which has significantly contributed to reducing maintenance costs. To further support the improvement of the maintenance environment, the project handed over 18 sets of hand tools and 8 mechanic creepers ,to be used under proper maintenance and management. These tools were assigned to selected key mechanics to promote personal accountability and proper tool usage. This momentous event reaffirmed the strong partnership and shared commitment to the continuous improvement of public transport in the Maputo region.
