News#30 EMTPM Establishes Independent GTFS Data Update System and Publishes Operation Map (February 2026)

In a major step toward sustainable digital mobility, the Maputo Municipal Public Transport Company (EMTPM) has established an independent system for updating its General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data. Between December 2025 and February 2026, the METRAP-Maputo Project supported this transition through a Training of Trainers (ToT) program.

Five key EMTPM staff members received intensive hands-on training to independently manage and update bus route and timetable data. As a direct result of this capacity building, the team successfully created GTFS data for two newly added bus routes.

Furthermore, in February 2026, EMTPM officially launched a comprehensive operation map on its website, fulfilling a key requirement for integration with Google Maps. EMTPM's IT team subsequently submitted the registration to Google. This milestone expects that the digital transit information system introduced by the project will be sustainably maintained and updated by local staff long after the project concludes.
