News#33 Closure Meetings of the METRAP-Maputo Project with Counterparts(June 2026)

Before the completion of the METRAP-Maputo Project, a series of closure meetings were held with counterpart organizations to acknowledge the achievements of the three-year JICA technical cooperation and reaffirm the commitment to future collaboration.

As part of the project's formal conclusion, a meeting was held with EMTPM on 3^rd June 2026. Attended by EMTPM's CEO, Mr. Fernando Uache, and METRAP-Maputo experts, the meeting served as an opportunity to reflect on the practical collaboration developed in the areas of mobility, public transport management, and technical support. Both parties recognized the strong cooperation established through the project and confirmed that the shared knowledge and experiences will continue to support EMTPM's institutional work after the closure of METRAP-Maputo.

On 4^th June 2026, METRAP-Maputo Deputy Team Leader, Mr. Takeshi Matsunuma, held a closing meeting with the Chairperson of INCM, Mrs. Helena Fernandes. The meeting marked the formal conclusion of a three-year JICA technical cooperation and institutional strengthening in the communications sector and highlighted the smooth transition from project execution to the continued use of the technical outputs delivered. During the meeting, deep appreciation was expressed for INCM's continuous institutional support and the vital role of JICA Mozambique as a key cooperation partner throughout the project cycle. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining open channels for institutional dialogue and expressed a shared interest in exploring future technical cooperation initiatives. The Chairperson expressed great satisfaction with the collaboration, recognizing the professionalism, availability, and collaborative spirit that supported the implementation of the METRAP-Maputo Project over the past three years.

The project conclusion was also marked by a meeting with main counterpart as the Municipal Directorate of Mobility, Transportation and Traffic (DMTT) of Maputo Municipal Council (MCC) on 5^th June 2026. The meeting, attended by DMTT Director Ms. Nora Aloi and Project Manager Ms. Helena Tito, provided a formal moment to acknowledge the valuable cooperation established over the past three years. It served as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of all technical teams involved and to reaffirm the lasting value of this practical collaboration in strengthening municipal mobility, transportation, and traffic management in Maputo

The all METRAP-Maputo activities in Mozambique were concluded on 30^th June 2026.
