News#20 4th JCC Meeting; Report on the Progress of METRAP-Maputo Project and Next Steps(March 2025)
The 4th meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) for the Project for the Improvement of Urban Public Transport System in Maputo (METRAP-Maputo) was held on March 27, 2025. During the meeting, the counterparts and project experts reported on the progress of the project’s three technical working groups as follows:
- 1 . Output 1: SIMPUT-Maputo dashboard training and the CDR training
- 2 . Output 2: periodic inspection and maintenance of buses, profitability of each route, monitoring system, GTFS data preparation)
- 3 . Output 2 pilot projects: Zimpeto bus terminal improvement and GTFS data preparation
- 4 . Output 3: Dissemination seminar for the two guidelines for the Multimodal Transport Hub (MnTH) and Transit Mall
- 5 . Public relations activities and promotion of project activities on social media
The following activities were scheduled to be implemented in the remaining six months of the project:
a) Establishment of a coordination mechanism proposed by SIMPUT-Maputo,
b) Establishment of the operation and management body for the master plan dashboard, CDR dashboard, etc., and capacity development of staff for utilizing the dashboard,
c) Implementation of pilot works at the Zimpeto bus terminal,
d) Authorization of proposed KPIs and a monitoring system for the bus business and operation
e) Establishment of a task force team for MmTH (Multimodal Transport Hub)and transit mall development/promotion, and
f) Implementation of third-country training in Cape Town.

- GTFS: The General Transit Feed Specification, a common format for public transportation schedules and associated geographic information
- SIMPUT-Maputo: Strategic Implementation Master Plan for Urban Transport System in Maputo Metropolitan Area
